The winter was long, wet and very trying…And suddenly we write April 2026! And the sun it out, at least some of the time.
Our Nursery is once more waking up from its winter sleep, plants are cracking open fresh new leaves and delicate flowers appear here and there, whether on a tree branch or covering a ground hugging perennial.
New for this year is, amongst other things, Betula ‘Spider Alley’, a slender and slow growing twisted birch tree, lovely spring flowering cascading shrub Exochorda x macrantha ‘Niagara’, intriguing and unsual Camellia rosthorniana ‘Cupido’ with showers of pink-edged white bell shaped flowers and stunning woodland perennial Epimedium ‘Pink Champagne’. Come and have a look – our stock is forever changing.
There is nothing more inspiring for the intrepid gardener than to wander amongst the beds and through the poly tunnels at Madrona Nursery, finding plants of which you have never heard, then selecting a few to take home and try. As always, we tempt you with a mixture of the tried and tested and the outrageously unknown and strange. Don’t resist, it is futile – just give in to your curiosity, then come back and tell us how you get on with your new plant friend.
Perhaps have a cuppa and a slice of the famous fruit cake (or my own favourite, the Lemon Drizzle) and rest in the sun for a few minutes (or more), contemplating your choices, or chatting to us or a friend. Or perhaps to one of the dogs? They are always up for a chat (and a stroke).
But always, always, feel welcome in our friendly Nursery, where it’s all about the plants (and a bit about cake)!
